Scott Rubey Portrait

Scott Rubey is Boulder, CO based landscape photographer specializing in images of the Pacific Northwest, Desert Southwest, and beyond. His work has appeared in Outdoor Photographer magazine and other publications, and can be found in homes and offices throughout the world. A native of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, Scott gained an early affection for all things outdoors. His fondest childhood memories consist of family road trips to places like Yosemite, Grand Teton, and Mt. Rainier National Parks; at age 16, upon climbing his first Cascade peak, he knew he'd found a passion that would shape the rest of his life.

While earning his Music degree at the University of Oregon, he quickly discovered that his affinity for musical composition transcended into the visual realm. His trusty Nikon became a constant companion on rock climbing and mountaineering trips that spanned much of the Western United States. Shortly after graduating from college, Scott took a job in finance. After twelve years of advancing in his chosen field, he found himself leading an increasingly sedentary lifestyle fraught with frantic days and sleepless nights. Ever cognizant that the outdoor ambitions of his youth were becoming a thing of the past, he made the decision to leave his career in finance in order to pursue his passions for adventure travel and nature photography.

Scott's adventures have taken him from the high peaks of the Cascades and Eastern Sierra to the jungles of Central America. He is equally at home deep in the back country or sleeping in his car during extended photo trips. During the course of his travels, Scott has seen the human impact on our natural environment first-hand. Some of his favorite locations have been changed drastically since his first visits only a decade ago. It is his hope and mission to promote environmental stewardship through the beauty of his images, and an enduring harmony with our natural world.

When he is not behind the lens, Scott still enjoys rock climbing, running, playing the piano and strumming his guitar; he has also dabbled in kayaking, skydiving and paragliding.
